untitled

A quick treatment of a photograph (one of two) that I sent over to Miguel for his band, Close To Modern. If you haven't read in my previous blogs, these guys really know how to kick some serious ass in a sublime-kind of way.

mackerel

This is my first painting in a bit. When I was at the Asian market with my room mate to do some shopping, we stopped by the fresh fish department. Lying there were a bunch of mackerels - beautiful fish with their stripes. I took a picture of it and wanted to some how incorporate their beauty.

Being in the painting mood, I combined the stripes of mackerel into a painting. I personally find the striping of this fish much more interesting than that of a leopard or tiger. But then again, people cling to only the things they are way too familiar with.

Come to think of it - this reminds me of the Rebecca Stamos (?) character in X-men, that naked blue lady and that blue/black Wolverine-esque character combined! Oh well - fuck it.

antique store

So today Bridgette and I went out to the antique store, ended up at the Charleston antique store and spent an enormous amount of time there. It was quite fun. Then we ended up going to Savers and B managed to find some stuff - I found myself a styrofoam head which I'm going to melt and turn into something interesting. Hopefully it won't end up being a toxic mess!

Tracks

Taking this set of photos got my friend James and I on the database for Metro, Homeland Security, and FBI among others I'm sure.

The old Basic Magnesium Plant out in Henderson was the subject of some photos last night. Orlin security came by, took our IDs and by the time we got home, 4 police officers show up at the door and started interrogating us about our activities. The cops went on further asking why we were taking pictures of THIS or THAT... eventually they took our information down - the price of being a photographer!

Anyways, this picture was done experimenting with HDR format and came out pretty nicely. But like all good pics with the limitations of my camera and the learning process, the fullsized version came out a little more grainy than I would've liked.

controlling perspective

one great thing about being a photographer is controlling perspective of the viewer by providing a selective point of view. this makes the viewer (you) fill in the blanks as to what you think it might be versus what it actually is.

untitled

There's a new area of photography that I stumbled across, even though it's been around for a couple of years, only recently have I discovered this. The technique is called Hi-Dynamic Range Imaging and yes it's going to start crappy, but as I feel my way around this, I will eventually learn to figure out how best to get the images I want through trial and error. I look at experimenting with both color and black and white as well as different levels of tone mapping as well.

Bagged

Angelica and I are getting ready to work on our next photoshoot and while doing so, she ordered some cool stuff online. Yesterday she brought it out, and so happened that we were watching a film with friends, I drafted one, Angie, to lay in the body bag - so I tagged and bagged her.

Interesting shot about our eventual fate of this thing we called life.
